My chauffeur driven transfer arrived bang on time at 12.00 noon and I was soon out of the suburbs of Adeliade on a spectacular scenic drive through the rolling hills south of the city and close to the coast. The land is dry wherever you look and this is prime cattle and dairy country. It was amusing to see cows each with their selected tree to provide shade from the midday heat, gently chewing the "cud".
It was a 140km drive, taking just over one-and-a-half-hours before we arrived at the busy but small Ferry Terminal at Cape Jervis.
Thankfully I was able to stow most of my bags in the luggage van rather than lugging it up a very steep gangway. The ferry left 20 minutes late and then seemed to take forever to cover the short distance to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island given that this was a big powerful catamaran that could easily do 20 knots plus. Even Kirk - but not Captain Kirk - who met us from the Sea Dragon Hotel said the ferry seemed to be moving very slowly for some reason.
A bit of a bumpy ride to the tip of the eastern end of the island to be welcomed with a cold beer.
Photo attached over the bay taken from the balcony of my lodge. Photos of the room will have to wait until tomorrow but it's stylishly furnished and very comfortable.
It's a 10-minute walk up to the main part of the hotel and I have already taken a number of photos of the local Kangaroos who eyed me with some curiosity as I made my up for dinner this evening. The Kangaroos are suffering badly with the lack of food and water although the hotel has been feeding the local population on this 260-acre estate.
Guess what - after months of drought the forecast for tomorrow when I am on a 10-hour Nature Tour is for strong winds and drizzle!!
On the menu this evening King George Cod - a delicious local delicacy! Chilli Crab and Prawn Linguine tomorrow evening!
