Dateline: Tuesday 11th March 2025 1400hrs Darwin Waterfront - Catching the Waves

One of the most popular attractions at the Waterfront is the Wave Lagoon. This website https://www.waterfront.nt.gov.au/wave-lagoon tells me that this safe wave and swimming lagoon is "stinger and crocodile free", covering an area of 4,000 square metres, including a shallow water play area for younger children. The Wave Lagoon rolls out 10 different wave patterns, from gentle swells to waves up to 1.2 metres high, perfect for "boogie boarders". There is a 20-minute break in-between each cycle. The lagoon depth is 2 metres at its deepest point, sloping up to the wet edge. The water is chlorinated salt, and the lagoon has a concrete bottom.

Darwin Harbour doesn't have a tidal motion so no waves hence the creation of this Wave Lagoon. It has proved so popular that the intention is to further develop the Darwin Waterfront complex to attract more visitors to the city and promote itself as beach style resort.

My hotel room overlooked the Wave Lagoon and this afternoon I took a stroll around this attraction on my way to visit the Flying Doctor Museum at the Stokes Hill Wharf. Some of the photos are mine and some are from the above website.
