Dateline: Saturday 15th March 2025: En Route to Kangaroo Island

A sleek, black, Lexus chaufeur driven saloon arrived at the Majestic Roof Garden Hotel, Adelaide at exactly 12.00 noon local time to transfer me to the Kangaroo Island ferry at Cape Jervis some 140kms south along the Fleurieu Peninsula.  My driver was Giovanna whose family had emigrated from Italy many years ago to Australia so as she said "I'm an Adelaide girl throuugh and through."

The drive took 1 hr 34 mins, half of which was through spectacular scenery, as the road undulated and snaked amongst the bone dry hills. It was a hot afternoon and I soon realised that this was dairy country since the gently sloping hills were dotted with cows taking shade from the midday heat under thier favourite trees.

The road closely followed the coast line too which is famous for surfing.
A little research with Wikipedia revealed that the Fleurieu Peninsula is a developing tourist attraction and not only a centre of dairy farming but also wine production in the McLaren Valley.

The photos - borrowed from the internet don't quite do justice to the landscape that I experienced but hopefully they will serve to bring my description alive for you.
